My treatment of the Black Medea aims to set it in an isolated space with a sense of depth, so as to give it a sense of the future and the unknown. With six movable black mirrors and a large mirror in the back of the Grant St Theatre stage, as well as a sand path in the middle of the stage, the space can be lengthwise extended, and the main actor and chorus can be flexibly entered or hidden. Therefore, the chorus could exist both as an entity and as the virtual demons of Jason and Medea, to create an ambiguous coexistence of dream and reality.

I wanted to present Black Medea as a "yet to happen" event, rather than a historical record that already existed, to arouse the audience's vigilance and sense of crisis. I placed the audience at the "beginning" of the story, and their position represents the "present," from which Medea will proceed to the depths of the stage and eventually disappear into the seemingly attainable "future".
