This design proposal for Darebin Parklands focuses on improving the parks WSUD and habitat values by retrofitting the existing duck pond and the leachate treatment system area. The proposed interventions are summarised below:

Zone Changes
To balance uses and functions of the site 3 separate zones are proposed:

  1. Habitat zone - protected creek line habitat zones which includes the duck pond.
  2. Dog off leash zone - new dog pond safe for dogs to swim in
  3. Leachate treatment zone - raingarden treatment chain to improve water quality and maintain consistent volumes & native grasslands plantings to improve both aesthetic & ecological value

WSUD
Creation of street raingardens and raingarden treatment chain across the leachate treatment site to improve on site water quantity and quality.

Soil Capping
Deeper soil capping to protect site from landfill contamination.

Floating Wetlands
Floating wetlands to be installed at the duck pond to improve water filtration and add ecological value to pond.

Native Planting & Improved Spillway
Planting that is in line with EVC 895 escarpment shrubland & EVC 641 riparian woodland and native grassland planting.
