The Darebin Parklands is a district park which plays an important role as part of the Darebin Creek and Yarra River’s linear habitat corridor. The Parklands aims to develop into a diverse and comprehensive range of leisure uses occupying both open space and bushland settings.

Linking together nearby open space areas to create an area centred on Darebin Parklands through the development of pedestrian links along the waterway will help develop a co-ordinated system.

Within the parkland, different levels of corridors will be created to enhance and restore the ecological diversity of the Darebin Parklands. Revegetating dense and multi-storey plantings can provide more suitable habitats for wildlife. A proposed wetland will be built to facilitate and improve the functionality of the leachate system by introducing fresh water into duck pond. And this proposed wetland will provide more habitat for aquatic species, thus enhancing and protecting biodiversity to a large extent.

The aim of constructing floodable area is to make room for creek and help the river system to adapt drought and inundation situations. Dog restriction area will be developed to reduce the impact on riparian areas and ecosystems . This will reduce nitrogen loads entering the river through dog faeces and erosion from dogs accessing the river.
