Finding The Way to Birrarung

This transect starts from Burnley train station, all the way along the railway down to Birrarung. In this area, the built infrastructures split the site into segments. There is a lack of connectivity between the train station and Birrarung. When people get off the train, there is a lack of direction for walking to Birrarung, but the river is only 900m away.

This project is to improve connectivity in this area by upgrading the existing trail facilities integrated with the indigenous wayfinding strategy. The design key element is based on the existing River Red Gum trees on the sites. In addition, design interventions are developed to interpret aboriginal culture and history and provide educational purposes along the developed trail. In General, this project aims to make this area more walkable and cyclable for pedestrians and cyclists, which helps build greater access to Birr rung and establish a culture consciousness of the Country through the journey on the trail.
