Urban Happiness Project

“The city has always been a happiness project...” - Happy City, Charles Montgomery (2013)

Urban Happiness – is something most urban planners and designers have heard of before. The term was coined to define the urban places where we experience joy that also contribute to a greater sense of wellbeing, belonging and resilience.

But what does urban happiness feel and look like for each of us? We may have experienced it whilst travelling, being at a place we call home, or a memorable event that has made a place extra special...

Curated by the Melbourne University Planning Students Society (soon to be known as the Urban Collective), the Urban Happiness Project explores places and stories of urban happiness from students, alumni and teaching staff within Urban Planning and Urban Design at the Melbourne School of Design.
