MSD partners with Parlour

The Melbourne School of Design is pleased to announce we have officially become a partner of Parlour. Parlour is an incorporated association dedicated to promoting gender equity and supporting women in architecture.

Parlour provides a platform for exchange and discussion, bringing together research, informed opinion and resources on women, equity and architecture in Australia. Whilst Parlour seeks to expand the spaces and opportunities available to women in architecture, they also seek to celebrate the outstanding and successful women already contributing to architecture and the architectural community in Australia.

The Melbourne School of Design has already established a longstanding unofficial relationship with Parlour since their launch in 2012, participating in and supporting many of their Melbourne events, including networking soirees and the full-day workshop Transform: Altering the Future of Architecture.

The University of Melbourne was a founding partner in the ARC Linkage sponsored research project that led to the establishment of the Parlour website. Dr Karen Burns, Senior Lecturer in Architectural Design, was one of the key Melbourne School of Design staff on the research team, along with MSD colleagues Honorary Senior Research Fellow Justine Clark and Professor Julie Willis.

"I'm delighted that the MSD is committed to a significant sponsorship of Parlour and its gender equity strategies,” says Karen. “The MSD sponsored Parlour's 2013 Transform workshop which was an essential platform for consultation and collaboration with the architectural community. Parlour demonstrates the value of ARC funded collaborations and the potential for research projects to have significant impact in the world."

This new official agreement sees us joining colleagues from Monash Art Design and Architecture, UQ Engineering, Architecture and Information Technology, AWS and the Australian Institute of Architects, who have all become Parlour Institutional Partners in the last year.

The Melbourne School of Design strongly supports Parlour’s ethos and objectives and looks forward to facilitating positive change in the architectural community alongside Parlour.
