Revitalising the Lungarno
To create resilient infrastructure for the Lungarno area of Florence, traffic congestion, heat island effect and access to the newly remediated Arno river must be addressed.
A new water-side hub is created to bring Florentines back to the Arno. A Biopore based local tree feeding system is introduced to support new greening and the riverside roads are given over to pedestrians and electric vehicles. The Arno becomes the city’s central river park. The river infrastructure is designed to preserve the required water flow in times of flooding and be storm proof.
