Project Circle Design - Phase 1 (#108)
Project Circle is an applied research initiative bringing together industry, academia, and government partners to investigate how circular systems thinking can be integrated into building and service design.
The project centres on the development of a working demonstrator, consisting of two small-scale pavilions, that responds to key challenges in the construction sector, particularly embodied energy, material consumption, and impacts on biodiversity.
Each pavilion is designed to operate within emissions limits informed by climate science for Australian housing, while showcasing distinct circular design strategies. One pavilion explores the use of regenerative, bio-based materials that are ‘grown’ as part of the construction process. The other focuses on the reuse of materials, incorporating reclaimed, reconditioned, and salvaged components sourced from demolition.
