Feels like home: Evidence-Based Design for late life care environments

Each year, over half a million older Australians experience the upheaval of moving from their private home into a hospital or aged care facility.

Feels like home: Evidence-Based Design for late life care environments

In these clinical settings, what makes a place feel like home? This project aims to advance our understanding of what 'home' means for older people. By elevating the voices of under-represented groups, including people from diverse cultural backgrounds and people with different impairments, the project expects to generate an evidence-based framework, digital toolbox, and resident-led evaluation approach to inform design of inclusive built environments. This should help to ensure that the billions spent on new hospitals and aged care facilities deliver genuine wellbeing outcomes for all residents.
