Equitable Assessment
This guidance on inclusive assessment practices in ABP provides information for staff looking to implement assessment approaches that promote equity, diversity and inclusion. It is designed to help ABP teaching academics deliver effective and inclusive assessment practices that cater to the learning needs of a diverse student cohort.
The guidance is delivered through the ABP Equitable Assessment Tool, which supports ABP teaching academics in evaluating and revising current assessment criteria and practices to enhance fairness, transparency, and inclusivity. The tool involves a 20-minute reflective exercise to help educators consider their current assessment practices, identifying strengths and opportunities for change. Upon completion, ABP staff receive further guidance and relevant examples of inclusive assessment practices based on their self-assessment outcomes.
This guidance is the outcome of a collaborative project between BEL+T and Teaching and Learning Innovation, aimed at supporting ABP teaching academics in contextualising and complying with the reasonable adjustment requirements outlined in the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (DDA) and the Disability Standards for Education 2005 (DSE). Additionally, the guide is designed to align with both the University's Advancing Students and Education Strategy: 2023–2030 and the Faculty's Designing Futures: ABP Strategy 2023–2028.
