Perpetual Ensemble

is an exploration of a holistic approach of wellness encompassing aspects of body, mind and spirit. It is a place to attain a sense of balance and awareness of one self in relation to this ever changing complex world. While Carlton is rich in its own historical elements, the community health center presents a fresh perspective with its mental and spiritual qualities, externalising these vessels beyond its physical enclosure into the neighbourhood.

My observations on site have definitely intrigued me with a more wealthy Victorian terrace and in contrast to the high rise-social housing estate on the south east corner of the site with people living in poor conditions and experiencing disadvantage. Therefore this presents an opportunity to bring in a place of craft, where the community can learn  and share their knowledge with each other, to find meaning by making and doing, but also able to explore other aspects of  health of body, mind, spiritual programs, inclusive of the overlapping areas, the creative zone and subconcious realm.

In relation to spiritual, physical and mental health, the development of three tectonics of the spiral, tangent and the shell typology would seek to elevate the “mental and spiritual qualities” of architecture, which extends beyond its material, functional and measurable properties, beyond its aesthetics into the mental and existential sphere of life.
