Out of the Rift

Inspired by precedents from similar high-density areas as Carlton, the Community Health Centre project ‘Out of Rift’ aims to provide a temporal relief for visitors affected by depression or anxiety.

The project introduces a V-shaped atrium to construct an inward-focusing programme as well as a dramatic vertical spatial experience for the domestic environment. Visitors are provided with an underground zen garden for self-reflection, followed by a horizon-broadening spatial transformation as they circulate upwards to the roof garden.  The project aims to, through this positive physiological implication offered by the spatial design, empower all visitors to lift themselves ‘out of the rift’ and observe life from different perspectives.
