PLASTIC (TOY) DEPOSITORY : Tin-Plate-Tower of Exchange

The making of toys has been unrecognisably changed. Tin toys have been phased out by plastic mass production. Skilled tin toy artisans have been replaced by faceless production lines and pushed to the very fringes of society. Now plastic is everywhere, choking our environment, and consuming our world.

At Plastic Toy Depository, material differences are articulated in the horizontal and vertical planes. Concrete surrounds the horizontal, where architectural expressions of plastic are found and undergoes a destructive process for recycling. Tin is expressed in the vertical plane. Intricacies of tin toy crafting is demonstrated and appreciated as visitors’ journey through the building. An exchange in attitude against plastic consumerism is enhanced in the Tin-Plate-Tower, the tin toy archive. Most importantly, it is a place to empower the tin toy artisan.
