VESSEL OF REVIVAL – Tactile Pottery Encountered
Handcrafted pottery that was once essential to homes has lost its meaning and value through technology and mass production. This has taken a toll on societies material knowledge. Mass produced objects are cheap and easily disposed when broken or old. The Vessel of Revival is a place that restores the lost art of handmade pottery and motivates the use and re-use of broken pottery. The architecture explores a vertical sequence piercing through a linear interactive space, building visitor’s tactile perception. Through the use of materials that characterizes pottery; Mud, earth and clay is exposed carefully to visitors as they encounter the craft. Unconsciously leaving traces of themselves through these materials, the Vessel of Revival celebrates pottery and its material that holds memories and stories.
