Activism Assembly: political secrets on screen

Since its conception, film has combined art with the documentation of our lives. The medium has helped tell our story for generations be it aspirational, humorous, moving, terrifying or political. Over the past century cinema has moved from grand theatres to the bedroom. This domestication of film by the Netflix generation has removed the community from cinema.

In a time where public expression is increasingly stifled and made ‘nice’ this project makes a space for communities to gather and be angry. The building focusses on a celebrated and symbolic theatre surrounded by a rigorous spatial experience. Activism assembly a place to watch and digest political films that takes aim at the ‘safe’ forgettable experience of contemporary movie-going.
