Concordia on Collins

The Concordia on Collins is a hotel design located at 600 Collins Street in the Melbourne CBD. It incorporates the concept of ‘coupling’, which refers to how humans can construct and deconstruct relationships between entities, arranging them together or breaking them apart for the purpose of incorporating them into our action. Utilising a strategy of addition, elements are combined to create new architectural hybrids (the coupled object).

This concept is mainly integrated throughout the interior design language, where furniture and joinery couple together to extend the function of their constituent parts. The architectural layout of the hotel relies on basic five metre by five metre modules, which, when coupled with additional modules, create larger living spaces. Small-scale design objects such as a shampoo bottle are also additionally conceived for the hotel, utilising the concept down to the scale of a hand-held object.
