Aiming for the carbon-neutral and better thermal performance, the proposal for the Forrest Primary School in Canberra includes a refurbishment for an existing teaching building and a new teaching building design.

This is a real project, accomplished in an integrated design process with the cooperation of engineering consultants.

From the Architectural Design Perspective:

  • More than designing buildings but an environmentally friendly and sustainable way of teaching and studying.
  • The architectural aesthetics deeply respond to the school’s pedagogy, culture, and history
  • Re-planning with the consideration of the existing site context to create a beautiful experience on-site.

From the Engineering Perspective:

  • Applying appropriate passive design strategies based on the existing conditions.
  • Explorations of different techniques and solutions, e.g. combinations of the PV panels with the extensive green roof, PV cells in glazing, Air-source heat pumps.
  • Providing evidence by building performance simulations to show the effects of the reduction of carbon emissions and energy consumptions.
