This project was an interrogation of the design of the Western BACE by Six Degrees Architects. It involved producing a model that shows our understanding of different construction concepts and how they impact a building’s design. By doing so, it has given me an appreciation of all the decisions that need to be made, and all the different factors that need to be taken under consideration. The process of creating this model wasn’t about merely replicating the technical drawings, but rather it served as a guidance in understanding why different choices were made, and how those choices impacted both the architectural and structural design of a building in general. The model itself does not fully show all the nuisances that a building contains, but it is a starting point in beginning to recognise the shear complexity that goes into designing any project.
