The Landscape Capstone studio addresses urban ecological design as fundamental to modern landscape architectural practice. The design brief asks for a new urban park at the inner urban Carlton United Brewery site. Students focus on working with landscape processes, including the urban water system, microclimate and living material. They apply a range of exploratory design techniques and critical research to developing a resilient park design. The studio uses Rhino 3D modelling as the primary tool for creating terrain and testing new design proposals. By the end of the course students demonstrate a complex urban landscape design project showcasing ideas for the future of Melbourne’s urban parks.
