I have responded to Damien Hirst's 2004 artwork 'Autopsy with Sliced Human Brain' with a sonic representation of overthinking or having a panic attack in the shower; a private, safe and familiar environment. The aim of my sonic response is to extend Hirst’s physical critique of the human brain by inviting the listener into a daily ritual that is soon overtaken by anxiety and chaos. Inspired by the idea of ‘shower thoughts’, I have expanded upon the concept that we do our best, and by extension, worst, thinking in the shower. The artwork’s subject matter is presented unapologetically and intends to make the viewer uncomfortable with its criticism and candidness. These concepts formed the foundation of my audio response.
