Barcelona

The current situation of Barcelona is very much different from the original plan; therefore, our initial idea was to restore the greenery within each block and increase the city’s greenery rate. At the same time, we will provide sufficient housing to suit the increasing population density of the future Barcelona. But, due to Barcelona’s city law and we want to keep its original grid neat and elegant, so we develop our future Barcelona city downwards. And during this process, we discovered the underground water source in the city.

The concept of our design is composed of three important elements: the first is the water system, then the restoration of greenery, and lastly the sufficient natural light. Boats are the main transportation tools for the underground city. Various activities happen on both sides of the ground. People can interact with each other easily. Spacious walkways enable people to enjoy a pleasant afternoon nearby their apartment. Park-like platforms allow a close interaction with nature. When people walk on the cosy shopping streets, sunlight reflects on their bodies and the ground. Shadows are dispersive and patterned along with the atrium roof above.

With our module system, stream discovering, greenery restoration, sunlight engagement, we believe that the new Barcelona city, will become a young but inclusive complex. People who live there will be eased to work, free to breathe, and enjoy their life.
