Design Manifesto_QVM 2040

Due to the effects of climate change around the world and the pressures from the growing population in Melbourne CBD, I propose an open space with educational, experiential value that improves social and environmental sustainability at QVM.

The carefully planned circulation integrates different interfaces with the surrounding context to enhance the autonomy and engagement between people and the environment. The circulation facilitates the interlocking of ideas of different periods from PAST, PRESENT to FUTURE by adopting different materials representing distinguished periods. A sunken plaza with a rainwater pavilion encourages social interactions; simultaneously, native vegetation in different colour schemes enrich the open space seasonally and strengthen the connectivity with the surrounding greenery.

The visual similitude of the circulation design through the idea of material and sustainability enhances “how landscape relates to the public from past to future and how it affects people’s perception of open space” in QVM.
