The project reimagines the Queen Victoria Market in 2040, when the population has substantially grown and people in Melbourne have less access to green space in their daily life. QVM becomes an essential spot in city north that makes people feel connected with nature and people.
The design activates the open space in the QVM and allows convenient access to the green space from the CDB area. It encourages people to visit the site through the creation of a ramped pedestrian bridge that connects the future QVM Market Square (current car park) and the adjacent Flagstaff Gardens. The gestures of multifunction and playfulness is extended from the bridge into the square and the market area with clustered blocks and artistic floor signage. These form multifunctional spaces that accommodate groceries, cultural events, and leisure activities and hence generate a unique QVM experience.
