Eternal Ephemeral: A Reacting Mechanism

The Venetian myth is an act created by the Venetian government to create awe and piety and spread the idea of the city’s permanency. The Venice cityscape and its architecture acts as an iconography to enable myth through theatricality and events. The act of Myth making is the core identity of the idea of Venice which have resulted to their persistence of sustaining the historical cityscape through preservation and restoration, so that the architecture can further serve as iconography to sustain the Venetian myth.

However, the weight of this inherent allegory lies heavily upon the current city. The result has been a resistance to change and the depletion of its population. With the city being overtaken by tourism. The city has result in the lack of urban event and has indeed turned into a city museum. Venice has not fallen, but it is the victim of its very success…
