Anna Davis

Curator, Museum of Contemporary Art Australia

Anna Davis is a curator and researcher based in Sydney. Curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, she is known for exhibitions that extend the gallery format, incorporating complex systems, experimental media and performance. She is the curator of Ultra Unreal (2022), an exhibition featuring six international artists and collectives working at the intersection of worldbuilding and club cultures. Davis was one of five co-curators of rīvus, the 23rd Biennale of Sydney (2022), which focused on more-than-human perspectives and was articulated as a series of conceptual wetlands. At the MCA, she has curated over twenty exhibitions and site-responsive commissions, including major surveys with Sun Xun, Jenny Watson, Louise Hearman and Claire Healy & Sean Cordeiro. In 2019, she was co-curator of The National: New Australian Art, and in 2015, curated the award-winning, touring exhibition Energies: Haines & Hinterding. Davis was co-curator of New Romance: Art and the Posthuman (2015/16), a large-scale exhibition presented in Korea and Australia that explored future ecologies and what it means to be human. She has contributed to and edited numerous publications, and regularly speaks on contemporary art and curating. Davis holds a PhD in Media Arts from the University of New South Wales.
