Constellations
Constellations
Marijke Davey

‘Unlike the archive, in which the classification system obliterates the specificities of each image, the constellation, conceived as an articulated ensemble, amplifies the polysemy of each part’ - Garence Chabert + Aurélien Mole (2009)
you run, you walk, you watch, you chant, you eat, you share, you listen, you learn, you collect, you exhibit, you post, you digest, you deny, you fear, you embrace, you trust, you write, you draw, you lose hope, you gain hope, you gain friends, you find allies, you hold, you assemble, you cry, you laugh.
Studio Description
Constellations will spend the semester exploring ideas and practices related to solidarity. Looking within, at so-called Australia, and looking abroad, at other communities fighting for self-determination. Constellations will challenge students to develop and deploy a translation of the activist practice of solidarity into an architecture practice of solidarity.
The architecture will be a medium sized cultural building whose programmatic brief relates to the concept of constellations. The project will look at the role of private (and therefore exclusive) collections within a University that respond to the research undertaken in the first part of the semester.
