The Third Digital Turn of Non-Standard Architecture

This studio is available to students enrolled in ABPL90142 Studio C, ABPL90143 Studio D, and ABPL90115 Studio E.
Studio Description
The studio will focus on the Third Digital Turn of Non-Standard that emerged out of Second Digital Turn identified as an architectural movement beginning in 2012, with aim to realise parametric architecture through novel methods of form finding and construction, by using parametric data models and robotics. The studio will investigate the Third Digital Turn through aspects of the codification of Non-Standard Architecture, ecological governance, rationalisation of Non-Standard Architecture, graded materials and automation in architecture. The novel interpretations of geometric lineage will be explored as the architectural intervention within the heritage site of Dubrovnik.

Studio Outcomes
The studio aim is to develop an architectural design that interprets readings and integrates the design brief and the site to a comprehensive level of resolution. The studio will critically evaluate readings as an approach to represent architectural space and form. The codification of the architectural prototype will explore the limits of Non-Standard Architecture within the urban environment informed by material, construction and automation.
Studio Leader
Melika Aljukic is the principal architect of architecture and urban design practice Melika Aljukic Architects. Melika graduated from the University of New South Wales with Bachelor of Architecture First Class Honours, and holds a Master in Architecture (Architecture and Urbanism) from the Architectural Association. Melika is currently a PhD (Architecture) candidate at the University of Sydney and a sessional academic in architecture at the University of New South Wales and the University of Technology Sydney.
