Studio Description
Inspired from creative minds around the globe who participated in eVolo skyscraper competition since 2006, NEXT is a hypothetical open studio to explore better skyscraper deign in the future. Here, we challenge that architecture to have a better relationship with the natural world, our community and existing urban environment. Students will design a skyscraper with complexity in either urban environment or rural border. Fundamental outcomes of this studio are innovative urban and architectural solutions to economic, social, and cultural issues of cities. With future advanced technology and environmental knowledge, our responses to built environment are limitless.
Studio Outcomes
The structure of this studio will be in two parts – masterplan and architecture, with emphasis on public realm, social, culture and sustainable design. Research topics will speculate (but not limited) on scarcity of natural resources, climatic and environmental impacts, social and economic division, rapid increase of inhabitants and urbanisation. Students can determine their project location, context and time setting individually to suit their proposed topics. Design proposals can be based on science fiction predictions of technology, future climatic and sociological issues from film, novel, literature and scientific research.
