Studio Outline:

25 credit-point postgraduate architectural design studio Melbourne-based studio sessions + Guangzhou intensive studio Focus on health-related/ environmental-friendly projects

This studio is suitable for students with: - An openness to experimentation - Strong conceptual three-dimensional thinking - A high level of communication skills - An interest in understanding a different professional context Studio Class: 2:30-5:30pm Tuesdays Two-week Travel (19-30 September 2017) Costs Students will be expected to cover air tickets & living expenses Hotel accommodation and architectural tour in Guangzhou will be provided without additional cost involved Students can apply for Melbourne Global Mobility for further financial support (http://www.mobility.unimelb.edu.au/about/)

Studio Leaders

GREG MISSINGHAM has taught at all four Victorian schools of architecture and as Visiting Professor at both national universities in Nanjing, China, and has been a guest design critic at schools in Australia, London, China, Indonesia and Malaysia. Apart from supervising PhD students, he teaches design at both undergraduate and graduate levels and human-environment relations. He was a Principal Design Architect for the Public Works Department of Victoria and a principal in architectural practice for eight years, building residential aged care, educational and housing projects and writing strategic master plans, functional briefs and feasibility studies for higher education and the Justice sector. Published in Australasia, Europe, the United States and Asia, he has given public lectures on design, residential aged care, Chinese gardens and the films of Peter Greenaway in Australia, Europe, China and Indonesia and talks on radio in New Zealand and Australia.

DR. HING-WAH CHAU is the Melbourne Early Career Academic Fellow in Architectural Design and the Senior Tutor of Masters Design Studios at the University of Melbourne. He has been teaching architectural design at the University of Melbourne since 2011. He has more than ten years of professional practice in Hong Kong as a registered architect, working in an interdisciplinary working environment and involving in different types of projects, ranging from small public structures, public housing to large infrastructural development.
