Studio Outline:

The studio shall explore proposals creating forms, spaces as a place or precinct where new transformations may occur. The studio shall re-focus on the design process and develop a design discourse taking in to account notion of the scree, cinema and the urban spectacle.

The studio shall explore the prospect of architecture as an event within the urban setting while exploring different urban massing typologies in order to develop an informed and developed response for the building response.

The studio shall look at how different creative practices have developed (architecture, art, film) and how these may actually intersect, overlap or merge into and inform each other; provoking new ideas for you as a designer.

SITE: Federation East, City of Melbourne
bordered by Flinders Street, Russell Court and Princes Walk, off the Yarra River

BRIEF: (some may be options) ACMI Digital Annex Museum, Sculpture Park, Business Hub, Public Plaza, Public Pool, Car Parking, Restaurant and Bars.

Studio Leaders

ANNA NERVEGNA is a director of Nervegna Reed Architecture, an award winningpractice tha works at the intersection of architecture, urban planning, installation and digital media. ASnna has taught Masters in Architecture MSD Melbourne University since 2013 and has also previously lectured in design at Monash and RMIT Universities.

Learning Outcomes:

The studio shall ptovide a learning environment where the student shall develop a high level of design professionalism including the development of a design process. Investigations into the brief and site include the Federation Square site shall be complemented with class lectures and exercises. A focus on high quality design development shall be complemented with presentation and drawings, drafting and verbal discussions. Some technichal assistance can be arranged if required. Classes shall be 2 x a week, with a discussion forum for additional assistance. Please note, some weeks (approx 2-3) may be a double class instead of 2 classes.

The studio shall learn to evaluate different urban typologies and test these as an appropiate approach for their scheme.

Through the first 4 weeks students shall explore exercises and multiple explorations for potential design (digital). Multiple and unbiased while learning to analyse the outcome.
