Studio 7

Learning Space

Richard Stampton

Studio Description

This project requires students to design multi-generational learning spaces (eg: pre-school, a primary school and a high school) within the above train line infill site east of Federation Square.

Key issues to be resolved: what is learning (and teaching), how can architecture best enable learning, how can precedents and artistic principles assist us in the development of architecture, and what is context and how can it be used to best connect our built environment.

This is a fantastic opportunity for thesis students to engage with a complex architectural brief requiring critical review and architectural resolution at an urban scale. An ideal project for students looking to illustrate a broad range of skills and knowledge, and to bolster their folios with a large scale urban project.

Studio Outcomes

Sophisticated, critical, ‘contextually’ relevant and nuanced urban scale architectural proposals. Note: what context means to you will be discussed in detail throughout the semester. Student proposals are to illustrate a clear, bold and persuasive vision for this important CBD edge site. Such proposals are to be based upon a well thought through, thoroughly researched and articulated theoretical position.
